Happenings

I have had a couple projects I've done the past week or so, but been crazy busy and haven't gotten a chance to post them. And I'll be off visiting family for a few days, so there will be much to post when I get back! :)

Stuffed French Toast

One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is make a good breakfast. And, probably my favorite thing to make for breakfast at home is stuffed french toast. It is so simple, but you just can get enough.

Just take two slices of bread, and make a sandwich of cream cheese and jam, whatever kind you like best. Dip it in the usual french toast egg mixture, and cook it up as you would regular french toast. After doing this, I promise you won't want to go back to the regular stuff again.

I had some strawberries and whip cream in the fridge already (pie tonight!) so I threw them on to top it all off.

Bake N Fill

So I have a wide variety of kitchen gadgets and goodies. One of my favorites is my Betty Crocker Bake N Fill pan. This wonderful little pan set lets you create filled cakes with no problems. I generally use it for ice cream cakes, but this week I used it to make a chocolate cake filled with whip cream and strawberries.

There is really nothing to it, just make the cake batter as you normally would, cook in the amazing little pan, and fill with whatever goodies you can dream up.

I missed taking a picture right away, so it had been a bit destroyed when I got to the filling picture, but you can get the gist of it. :)

Where my peeps at?

I have to say, I think that Easter has the best holiday candy. (THE best is mint M&Ms at Christmas, but for overall selection Easter edges out the winner.) How can you not love Cadbury mini eggs, PB M&M eggs, whopper eggs, endless jelly beans, and the list goes on.

One point of controversy here is the Peep. Now I have never been a big fan of the Peep candy, and haven't eaten one in years. This year, though, as I was making the next project I realized that Peeps are just marshmallows with some extra sugar on the outside, and I like marshmallows, so I needed to try them again. And you know, they weren't so bad. So, if you haven't had peeps in a long time I suggest you get back to it!Now, onto the fun stuff. I came across this idea online, and just knew I had to try it out. This is something that even those non-Peeps peeps can jump on the bandwagon for...Peeps Sushi!
This was so simple and fun, everyone enjoyed eating them! It is Rice Krispy Treat, Peeps, and Fruit by the Foot. So, start cutting the heads off those Peeps you still have in the cupboard from Easter and get to it. Cut the Rice Krispy treat, roll, and cover the outside with Fruit by the Foot.

There are so many fun things you can find to do with Peeps, but I think this one of the best and tastiest I have found.

And a little did you know...Peeps bunnies and chicks come in 6 colors, so be sure to try them all!

And there are people who like the little buggers, the amount of Peeps eaten at Easter could more than circle the Earth's circumference. So, if you like them stand up and be counted! They are the best selling non chocolate Easter candy, and have been for the last decade. Go to their website www.marshmallowpeeps.com for more fun facts and recipe ideas.

Beads beads beads!

A couple weeks ago a group got together after work and did a little class on making these bracelets. The process is actually a pretty simple one, and easily customized to your liking. Of course, I have since gone out and gotten a bunch more beads and have started making more of these. :) I made this purple one last weekend, and am thinking of either doing a pink or red one this week.

Malt Cake

A few weeks ago was the birthday of one of the girls at work. I'd just gotten a new cookbook, Baked. It is a fabulous cookbook, and I recommend it to all!

So, I was enlisted to utilize this new book and make the cake. I decided on making the Malt Cake. It is a white cake with malt flavoring added to the batter, and a chocolate frosting. It turned out quite delicious and very moist.

Of course if you're going to have a malt cake, you have to decorate it with malt balls right?! I found these strawberry ones to alternate with the chocolate, and they were surprisingly good. I usually am of the opinion that something that is good done with chocolate, will not be good any other way really, but these were a pleasant surprise.
Here it is
